Sandstone Holes

Erosion in Canyonlands happens slowly. Here are a series of holes in the sandstone made from water and freezing. Most of the holes are about six inches and they mirror what happens on a larger scale to cliffs and arches. You can see there are arches and double arches formed here. Small in this case, but the same mechanism makes the bigger ones.
